From Monday, Oct. 18, to Friday, Oct. 29, 2021, The , or SGC, hosted a slate of events focused on career paths in the tech industry. In addition to attending the events, 58 students also took the opportunity to “reboot their résumés” by submitting their CVs to 21 alumni/professional “guest reviewers” for analysis and revision.  

  The tech events kicked off on Monday, Oct. 18, 2021 @ 7:30 p.m. with TechUcation, the annual event that brings together students and industry employees and recruiters to discuss the various career paths available in the tech industries, including for students not just interested in computer science. This year, 37 students attended the virtual panel discussion. Tzvi Goldfeder ’12YC, co-founder and CEO of Offchain Labs, gave the keynote address, describing how his firm is disrupting the blockchain/crypto space and what students interested in these areas can do to best prepare for careers. Ari Zoldan ’99SAB, CEO of Quantum Media Group, gave a “state of the tech industry” overview and also spoke about how students should focus on developing soft skills as well as the hard skills necessary for careers in tech. The panelists, all of them �ۿ۴�ý alumni, spoke about their journeys entering the tech workforce, what they do and the best practices for students to be successful.     On the following day, Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2021 @ 11 a.m., a small but dedicated group of students learned about the technology landscape in Israel from Jonni Niemann, tech program manager for Gvahim, a nonprofit organization that supports people making aliyah and finding work in Israel. As Niemann pointed out, “Gvahim’s tech program for software engineers, data scientists and electrical engineers working on chip design is the only career development program in Israel tailor-made for highly skilled immigrants,” and the info session focused on the exploding tech industry in Israel and its need for software engineers. Rounding out the week, on Friday, Oct. 22, 2021, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., was the Technology Meet and Greet, where, as the name of the event implies, students had the opportunity to network with alumni and professionals at a number of leading tech firms. Thirty-two students took part in over 100 video chats with 21 alumni/industry professionals at companies like Google, Vimeo, Amazon Web Services, Goldman Sachs (Engineering), Broadridge Financial Solutions and Citi (Technology).  

  To address a serious gender imbalance in the tech industry, Women in Tech, on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2021 @ 5 p.m., gave 11 students the opportunity to meet with a panel of women in the tech world to learn about their experience navigating the field and to discuss opportunities at Broadridge, a financial technology company. The panel moderator, Miriam Shere ’19S, was accompanied by three high-level women from the firm in leadership roles in software engineering who discussed their experiences both at the firm and in the industry: Ghislaine Chan, Vice President, Software Engineering; Keely Dayak, Senior Director, Software Engineering; Michelle Minelli, Vice President. Students were invited to stay after the conclusion of the program to network with the panelists and specially invited �ۿ۴�ýalumni from Broadridge.     Last but not least, what would a roster of tech events be without connecting to Google, and 22 students had just that opportunity through a Google Meet Up on Friday, Oct. 29, 2021 @ 11 a.m., where they learned about all things Google: how to apply, types of positions available, how to best prepare a tech résumé, and the qualities that the firm looks for in candidates. Participating in the discussion was Brendan Collins (University Programs Expansion); Tali Greenberg Zimilover ’19S (Software Engineer), Shmuel Herzberg ’15YC (Software Engineer), Naomi Klamen (Head of Customer Engineering, New York Financial Services) and Sergey Sigelman ’00YC (Senior Software Engineer).
