Shires Delivers Lecture at Victorian Studies Conference

Shires, David and Ruth Gottesman Professor of English and chair of the English department at , spoke on November 3, 2016, at the North American Victorian Studies Association annual conference in Phoenix, Arizona, on “Nineteenth-Century Reforms in Fine Arts Observing.” Her talk discussed Parliamentary commission debates and reforms instantiated over decades at The National Gallery of Art, London. Her 1992 book, Rewriting the Victorians: History, Theory, and the Politics of Gender, where she is both editor and contributor, has been selected for Routledge’s Historical Resources: History of Feminism series, an interdisciplinary digital reference resource that brings together a wealth of materials spanning the 19th century.
